My practice’s goal

My practice's goal
My goal is to establish long term relationships with my clients by providing sound, practical and friendly advice.

I aim to get to know you in order to develop a good understanding of your interests and objectives.

I will work with you, and any other advisors you might have, to develop a strategy that best meets your needs.

Commonly my strategies are designed to:

  • add commercial value to land;
  • safeguard exisiting property rights;
  • obtain authorisation to extract natural resources; or
  • protect environmental values.

However, each client is unique and I look to cater my strategies, advice and advocacy to meet your particular needs

My practice’s approach

My practice's approach
My approach involves simplifying the legal process and working with you to achieve commercially practical results and deliver positive outcomes.

I have worked extensively for private sector, central government, local authority and community clients. This breadth of experience means that I appreciate the needs and goals of each sector, their interface and how your interests can be most successfully advanced in each case.

I know how government operate and what they look for when appraising private sector proposals. I am familiar with commercial bottom lines and how far the private sector should go towards satisfying the expectations of government and the public.

Likewise, I am well versed in identifying the types of information and degree of assessment that the government and public can reasonably expect when faced with a private sector proposal. This includes whether a proposal is appropriate or the purported remedies and mitigation are acceptable.

Client support

Client support
I am experienced in supporting my clients in a wide variety of ways. I am usually engaged to prepare the strategy and lead the processes involved in development, natural resource extraction, regulation, or litigation.

Once the strategy is in place I take a lead role in moving the project or matter forward. I may encourage you to engage a planner (or other suitable expert) to manage day to day elements of the project or matter, depending on the nature and scale of the work involved, as this can prove more cost-effective for you.

You will have access to my network of professional relationships with experts at the top of their field (e.g. commercial and property lawyers, planners, scientists, engineers, architects, urban designers, public relations consultants and project managers). I am able to call on these experts to assist you if you require other forms of expert assistance.

Overall, my approach is to provide you with pragmatic and cost effective representation that is designed to deliver positive outcomes.

Instructing me

I represent clients within New Zealand and International Jurisdictions.

My team includes skilled linguists (French, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese).

I encourage you or your usual solicitor to contact me directly to discuss whether I can assist you. As a barrister, I need to be instructed through a law firm. If you do not have a regular solicitor, I am happy to arrange for one of a number of law firms that I work with to instruct me on your behalf at no extra cost to you.
