I have extensive experience with terrestrial and deep-sea mining projects.
Mining projects often need to satisfy a variety of regulatory requirements. I can assist you with mineral permits, resource consents, access to private/Crown land and due diligence.
I can draw on strong relationships with central government agencies, local authorities and the mining industry when providing you with advice on the best way forward.
Some of my recent work includes:
- Securing multiple consents for the establishment and operation of an open pit alluvial gold mine north of Roxburgh, Central Otago, for Kokiri Lime Company Limited (August 2016).
- Securing multiple consents for the establishment and operation of an alluvial gold mine in the Southland for Waikaia Gold Limited (December 2011).
- Advised the Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment on legal aspects of the findings and recommendations in the report “Stockton revisited: The mine and the regulatory minefield” (October 2009).
- Assisted Youngson and Associates Limited with due diligence advice on exploration investment in New Zealand, proposed gold mining ventures in the South Pacific and contractual arrangements with joint venture partners.

“We initially approached Robert to assist Youngson and Associates Limited with environmental due diligence on a number of mineral investment projects in New Zealand. We were extremely impressed by Robert’s knowledge of the mining industry and his ability to identify additional areas in which advice was required from other legal experts.”
Sue Attwood, Director of Youngson and Associates Limited
